Jordan Saved From A Toxic Cloud

Jordanian authorities have broken up an alleged al Qaeda plot that would have unleashed a deadly cloud of chemicals in the heart of Jordan’s capital, Amman.
The plot would have been more deadly than anything al Qaeda has done before, including the September 11 attacks. The plot was within days of being carried out, Jordanian officials said, when security forces broke it up April 20.
In a nighttime raid in Amman, Jordanian security forces moved in on the terrorist cell. After the shooting stopped, four men were dead. Jordanian authorities said. They said at least three others were arrested, including Azmi Jayyousi, the cell’s suspected ringleader, whom Jordanian intelligence alleges was responsible for planning and recruiting.
On a confession shown on state-run Jordanian television, Jayyousi said he took orders from Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a suspected terrorist leader who has been linked to al Qaeda and whom U.S. officials have said is behind some attacks in Iraq.
The targets were the U.S. Embassy, the Jordanian prime minister’s office and the headquarters of Jordanian intelligence.
“According to my experience as an explosives expert, the whole of the Intelligence Department will be destroyed, and nothing of it will remain, nor anything surrounding it,” Jayyousi said.
Details of the alleged plot were shown yesterday on the Jordanian television, including graphics of how the cell apparently intended to carry out the attack.
In an videotape shown on Jordanian TV, Hussein Sharif said Jayyousi recruited him as a suicide bomber.
“The aim, Azmi told me, was to execute an operation to strike Jordan and the Hashemite Royal family, a war against the crusaders and infidels,” Sharif said. “Azmi told me that this will be the first chemical attack that al Qaeda will execute.”
Jordanian authorities said the attack would have mixed a combination of 71 lethal chemicals, which they said has never been done before, including blistering agents to cause third-degree burns, nerve gas and choking agents. For more details ClickHere
I have seen Azzam Jayyousi’s confession last night, and I must say that I felt like blowing up the T.V. I mean he was so cold-blooded, he talked as if he was going to kill a mosquito or something. And then he was like: “I thought by doing this I’ll be serving God, and that even if I got killed I will directly go to heaven”. WHY DO THEY HAVE TO GIVE A SHITTY PICTURE OF ISLAM.
Islam has nothing to do with this, and what I loved about the Jordanian authorities is that they have interviewed Muslim “sheikhs” of mosques and universities, and they have all agreed that killing in the name of Islam is the worst thing anyone can ever do. And they have proved by Islamic Sharee’a (teachings, rules and instructions of Islam) that whoever kills a person, it’s as if they have killed all humanity, and whoever saves a soul, is as if they have saved all humanity. Therefore whoever kills a Muslim on purpose, and whoever kills an innocent person will be heading straight to hell where he’ll be burnt over and over again.
THER WERE GOING TO KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE, I mean for God’s sake could you please save us the stupidity and please do something good in your lives. Why attack Amman? You’re not happy with their strategies? Not happy with the system there? So if we’re not happy then we kill and get rid of all those who we disagree with? Is that what our prophet was suffering to teach us? Is there no other way to negotiate but with bombing and killing? Have we forgotten that religion is all about bringing peace to the world, have we forgotten that Quran asked us to be constructive, to build, to add to the world’s improvement, not the opposite. Or is it that you have your own rules and your own religion and love to call it Islam!! Have you forgotten that one good thing brings 10 times the reward, and one bad thing brings10 times the punishment and disgrace!
Did you forget that even in war Muslims are not allowed to kill children, women, old people, animals and plants of the enemy?! And now you want to burn a whole city and let them suffer for generations not caring about all the innocent people who are going to be lost. So it’s ok to kill who you disagree with even if that meant losing your family and the good people who can add to the construction of society more than you with your corrupted heads will!
Thing twice before doing anything, and please read the Quran, and study the Islamic religion well, and most important of all that, please stop covering yourselves with Islam, coz Islam is innocent, peaceful and have so many ways of bringing happiness and well being to societies without harming a bee.

Labels Required For Genetically Modified Food

In the European Union, rules are put in place on the labelling of foodstuffs to enable European consumers to get comprehensive information on the contents and the composition of food products. Labelling helps consumers to make an informed choice while purchasing their foodstuffs.
A new EU directive requiring labels for genetically modified (GM) food took effect Sunday, but unfortunatelt excluding animal products at the moment.
I totally support the directive. Such a requirement would really help make the right choice. So many people are against GM products and need such a step to make it easier for the people to avoid them. And it will make it up to the consumer to choose what to buy instead of having no clue what he’s eating. On the other hand, labeling might cause other unpleasant results, such as experiencing a raise in the costs of non-GM products, or even an increase in the prices of all products to make up for the additional testing expenses.
Genetically modified crops in general are dangerous for human health and also for the environment because what the g.e. (genetic engineering) industry is doing is putting new genes into new organisms, like taking a growth gene from a fish and putting it in a tomato,” said Ulrike Brendel of Greenpeace Germany. “And of course nobody can predict what effects such a crude effort is having on human food and the environment.”
If it was up to me, instead of all this mess I’ll simply prohibit GM products, let’s all get back to nature and stop interfering with it. I know this costs a fortune, and wont keep up with the huge demand, but instead of thinking of financial loss, we should find solutions to lead healthy lives, and if we make this our first priority then we’ll sure work it out in a way to avoid financial loss.
I don’t know, it’s just that I’ve always hated this stupid interference with nature. We don’t need genetically modified ingredients, why can’t we leave nature in peace!!

A medium to strong earthquake hit many Middle Eastern countries yesterday morning, causing injuries, damage and panic from Amman to Cairo.
The quake hit at 0814 GMT, and measured between 4.9 and 5.1 on the Richter scale, strongest was measured in Amman.
The tremor’s epicentre has been located around the Dead Sea.Employees in the Jordanian capital rushed out of offices and telephone lines were cut. Schoolchildren were given the day off. Whereas in Jerusalem, many buildings were evacuated as a precaution, and the radio reported two buildings suffered minor damage, including one in Tel Aviv.
The tremor was also felt in Damascus, southern Syria and Lebanon.

I heard the news from my little sister in Amman, and thank God, I made sure they’re all fine. I wish no further quakes will follow and that all will be safe.

Environment In The Eyes Of Islam

Islam is a religion that discusses everything a person could ever think of. This is a fact, from the most personal issues such as hygiene, relationships and behavior for example, till the most general issues of life, like universe and the environment.
Whatever the question is, Islam has the answer to it. Not only this, but it also provides certain predictions concerning humanity, civilization and the future, add to it all the historical details it gives about ancient civilizations.
This isn’t what Muslims only say, but also non-Muslims who studied Islam and got deep into its details.
I can go on forever if I wanted to talk about topics in Islam and how they’re looked at, as I find it really interesting. But I wanted to talk about environment in this post.
Islam urged people to appreciate what the environment offers to humanity. It provides oxygen, protects from sun rays and poisonous gases and it offers the ground to be planted with different kinds of fruits and vegetables as well as trees to decorate the world with its beauty, add to its color, purifie air, produce oxygen, strengthen the ground and hold it together, and assure the balance of the water circulation. A lot more about environment and its importance was mentioned in Quran and by the Prophet Mohammad. People are urged to study in order to understand nature so that they can be able to protect it.
In Islam, nature and the environment are a big responsibility that humanity should take.
From the point of view of Islam, the protection of the environment starts with the person himself. One should always be clean, smell clean, and wear clean clothes. One’s home should be clean and everything personal should not be misused.
In that way children will automatically grow up with an understanding of hygiene protection.
Next comes the importance of keeping the outside clean as well. Islam stresses the necessity of dealing with the streets, neighborhood, shopping centers and public places as if they were our own homes. So throwing garbage in the streets or allowing children to mess up the neighborhood is not accepted.
In Islam every sane adult person is responsible and should help save the environment from pollution. Tree leaves aren’t to be cut for example.
And here are some really interesting points that crossed my mind now:
Encouraging Agriculture:
Prophet Mohammad said: “if you plant a tree, and then a human, animal or bird ate from it, you’ll be rewarded”.
Adding more green spaces is something very positive for both you and the environment. And one of the trees with a special value and which was specifically mentioned in Quran is the olive tree. Because of what it has to offer: its olives, the oil of its olives and its wood. Taking into consideration the fact that it doesn’t demand a lot of watering and can survive all weather conditions.

War Rules Didn’t Forget The Environment:
Islam forbids the following in case of war:
1. Killing women, children or old people of the enemy. They should be kept safe, untouched and never be tortured. They should never be treated as slaves, for Islam doesn’t believe in slavery. All people are equal, all people are born free.
2. Cutting or burning trees. Islam forbids Muslims from harming any single tree in the country of the enemy. They should be protected.

Be kind to animals:Environment is not only air, soil, water and plants. There is a very important element: Animals.
· Don’t torture animals. Prophet Mohammad has mentioned a story of a woman who had a cat in her home. This woman was a very nice person in her relations with others. She did all her religious responsibilities, but still, when she died God didn’t want her to be in heaven. She was to go to hell. People were shocked to know this, for she was ideal to them (religiously speaking). When they asked about the reason, they knew it was because of her cat. She didn’t treat it well. She let it starve from hunger and thirst. God wants us to be kind to animals. Children shouldn’t take them as toys, and adults shouldn’t torture them in any way. They should be cared for as much as possible.
· Animals should be respected even after death. If you hit an animal with your car by accident, you should remove its body from the way and bury it so that it won’t be crossed over by someone else like a piece of trash and so that no other animals would mess with its body. The body should be respected and be kept safe. On the other hand burrying the body prevents the bacteria from spreading by air, affecting other living beings and causing diseases. And even if it wasn’t you who hit the animal and you just found it dead, then you have to bury it.

Other than the mentioned above, it is known that one of the Prophet Mohammad’s companions raised a cat as a pet. Which means Islam isn’t against having pets. But one animal Islam avoids as a pet to be kept inside the home is the dog, for hygienic reasons. Reasons that were studied and proved by health scientists. For the dog saliva carries certain microbes that are easily transmitted to humans and that affect the health negatively. Other than that the dog has a certain smell, now that smell signifies that no matter how hard you’d try to clean it, 100% cleanliness is not guaranteed, not like cats or birds for example.
It’s true that a lot of people have dogs at their places and are living healthy and happy, but it was proven that they suffer from either breathing or skin problems, could be in early or late stages of life. If not then they must have spent a fortune on vaccinating their dogs and themselves.
Yet Islam considers dogs smart and useful, for instance it’s ok to use dogs in security matters or in guiding blind people as long as they’ll (the dogs) be kept in special places for dogs outside homes, where they’d be offered food, water, care and a clean environment. So point is, keep them outside. Clean yourself very well in case of contact with their saliva. By the way I’m not trying to convince those of you who have dogs to get rid of them, I’m just explaining some points as Islam see them and as science interpreted, you can make research and either keep or get rid of your dogs, it’s up to you 🙂 .

To sum it all up, environment in the eyes of Islam is as a preacious pearl taken from the bottom of the ocean, we should know how to protect it and we should remove the dust from it to make sure it’ll keep glowing and we’ll keep admiring it as it shines…

Let’s Play … For Nature :)

Yesterday it rained like crazy in Tunisia. I love rain, it’s so great and watching the rain drops fall on the ground, the sound they make and even the touch of rain on your skin is just incredible.
There are years when a country lacks the bless of rain, you can see all people complaining and blaming God or nature for not having enough water. And when it comes in big quantities causing floods, you hear all people also complaining for the loss of crops, or the ruins of their places, or the dirt left at their house doors …etc. What made me get to this idea that I’m sure a lot would find crazy or childish in a way but I wont lose anything if I shared it with you .
I thought that it’s true rain becomes a danger when it causes floods and blocks streets and ruins everything, no matter how good the infrastructure is, when it rains too heavy everything will be flooded and a lot of things will be damaged. And the next day you’ll find responsible people organizing the pumps that will take all excess waters and blow them I don’t know where. The point is the waters will become dirty and wont be used, they’ll be pumped away and WASTED instead.
So I thought why doesn’t every citizen in every country help the authorities control excess waters, use them personally and even send them to countries that need waters.
How, well here comes the nice part, this could be applied through water containers spread by people and authorities as well, spread all over the country. I got the idea from my parents. Back in time when I was a little kid, I remember when it used to rain , mom and dad used to make us play this very useful and great game, they called it “water collection”, the game consists of any means of collecting water: bowls, bottles, plastic boxes, jars, vases, and anything deep. It’s played in the rain season. Each member chooses something to collect waters and places it anywhere he/she likes. Our parents chose the best places of course as they were more aware what part would enable to collect water better. And the next day at the same time we placed our things, we get back to them to see who collected most, and of course we kids always won as our parents always poured from their containers into ours 😉 Now the next step of the game is to suggest ways to use the collected water, some would use them to water the indoor plants, others would suggest using it as drinking water for the birds, or in cooking or washing and cleaning and so on. As for me I always used it to increase the water level in the aquarium we had 😛 I thought the fish would be happy to experience swimming in rain water, lol, poor fish they’d be swimming in peace and then I come and pour the water and they’d all go like: bug, bug, bug… and there’ll be kind of a “water-twister” in there as I poured strongly, and the happier I was, the stronger I poured 😛
Anyway, back to the main idea, I thought applying this game would really be helpful. Why don’t we spread containers on the roof, balconies, put some on the window edges…etc, rainwater is pure we could use it in any way. Why don’t authorities build certain containers and collective tanks and spread them in streets and farms. Other than that when a farm is flooded, instead of pumping the excess water in the sea, we could clarify it and use it, if it was more than enough we could send it to parts that weren’t lucky enough to get enough water average. The rain is falling anyway, and there might be floods no matter what we do, but it makes a difference when we use at least 2% of the falling rain at first, with time we’ll figure out better ways to collect and use the water, there has to be a first step though, even if that step was so simple. On the other hand we teach everyone to care for the environment and play a role in saving the wasted waters and using it. We implant the environmental awareness in our children, we teach them that teamwork helps in many ways.
It’s just a thought, maybe if I was specialized in environmental issues I’d be able to apply that theory some day, but I hope the ones who are specialized would think of something similar to avoid the terrible loss of that pure water and benefit from it in the best way possible.

Environmental Issues

Caring for the environment started out as a hobby, then with the increasing environmental problems and the loss of some huge green masses it became a matter of concern, and now I believe it became a MUST. It is our duty now to put an end to the dangerous human acts towards the environment and to try to fix the problems we already caused. Enough messing with nature, and enough ruining our surroundings.
A lot of countries were aware of the critical situation our environment is experience, and now many developing countries joined the club. They started working on that seriously, and I thought that some of the environmental activities in those countries are impressive and worth talking about. So here you go some info that would help spread environmental awareness …

The Global Environment Facility/ Small Grants Program (GEF/ SGP):

“Protecting Global Environment Through Community Action”
This program was launched in 1992 to assist developing countries urge their communities to play a role in the protection of global environment in relation to four focal areas: biodiversity, climate change, international waters and ozone layer depletion, as well as land degradation, desertification and deforestation.
The program is based on the belief that global environmental problems can only be addressed adequately if local people are involved, and that with small amounts of funding, local communities can undertake activities which will make a significant difference in their lives and their environment.
The GEF/ SGP is administered by the UNDP, and is currently offered in over 50 countries. It has promoted awareness regarding global environmental concerns; built capacities of communities and NGOs to address those concerns, and provided a mechanism for demonstrating community solutions of global environmental problems.

Recycling Coalition:

The (RC) was launched in 1998 among: Jordan Environment Society (JES); Arab Women Organization (AWO); and The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN). The (RC) was supported by the (GEF/SGP).
The Recycling Coalition undertakes activities that involve people in the collection and separation processes of recyclable and production of eco-products. Other than that (RC) spreads awareness through media in addition to direct contact by lectures and workshops. Not to forget the training it offers through workshops and study visits.
The (RC) collects: paper, plastic, and metals. It encourages schools, NGOs, and different enterprises to collect the recyclables and it provides them with the needed containers. On the other hand the (RC) hires workers to separate and sort recyclables at special separation centers. As for the different recycled products, they are produced and also marketed by the (RC).
